The “New” Playstation 4 Pro!

I’ll set aside, for a moment, my frustration at the fact that console makers turn out a console just in time for the holiday season, only to turn out an even better, updated version somewhere down the road. Each time I’ve bought the first iteration of an Xbox or Playstation, I’ve found myself befuddled at just how much I regret not waiting. In the case of the Playstation 3, just to name one example, I had to “upgrade” my PS3 at significant cost because it had issues with overheating and noise. But again, we’ll tackle that subject another time.

So with Sony soon releasing their new “Playstation 4 Pro”, we wondered what exactly might be new about this new iteration of Sony’s latest, greatest, modification of their rather exceptional console. So what’s the dif? We were surprised, and think you will be too.

First and foremost, Sony has made the rare move of improving the inner workings of the PS4. This is isn’t just rare, but typically reserved for a new generation of a gaming console.

Per Sony, the Pro will feature best ever graphics on any of their consoles. The idea is to power the Pro to offer 4K graphics in games (they must be pre-made for it to display 4K) and video streaming. In fact, much of the improvement we expect to see is about processing and displaying beautful, Ultra HD images. Even a standard TV is expected to be enough to improve the view, as you’ll enjoy upscaling (though it will be limited by the TV’s native resolution, of course. You will also now be able to stream 4K movies from Netflix. Sadly, the PS4 is not capable of playing 4K Blu-Ray discs.

Very importantly, you can play ALL PS4 games on the new Pro, and download and play any PS4 game to it.

For a look at the new Playstation 4 Pro, Amazon has the 1TB version for the Pre-Order price of just $399.99. That’s just $50 more than the previous version’s list, and the new model is expected to ship on 11/10/16.
