I’m not only a big fan of Harmony Remotes, I’m also an owner! Wait, that sounds silly. How about “I’m also a user!” That sounds just a tad creepy. One more try. “Harmony Remotes make it easy for me to be lazy!” Yeah, I think that one sums it up best.
While it lasts, eBay (FocusCamera is the seller) offers the Logitech Harmony 650 Universal Remote for just $49.99 with free shipping. That’s the lowest price we’ve seen for this nice remote that handles most of the stuff a great Harmony Remote can.
Let me see if I can explain this.
– You head to the MyHarmony website and tell it what devices you want to use with your Harmony 650.
– It comes with software that allows you to transfer the information the remote needs via USB (the cable is also included.)
– Now you tell the remote what functions from those devices you want the Harmony to control.
– You set up activities by doing this, and the remote figures out the rest.
So, when you push one of their awesome “One Touch” Activity buttons (i.e. Watch TV, Play a Game, Listen to Music), it turns devices on and off (Digital TV Box, CD Player, in my case my trusted Logitech Squeezebox etc…), switches inputs for you (HDMI, Component etc…), and will even adjust settings accordingly (in my case the picture settings for the TV). The keys on the Harmony 650 are color coded, and once you’ve programmed it (my total time was about 15 minutes the first time I did it, updating new devices takes much less) you can control everything in your system from it.
Logitech makes many remotes in their Harmony line, some costing up to $400. But in this price range, I’m convinced that the 650 is pretty much unbeatable. Take the plunge while it’s in stock!
